Friday Night Fire at Teatro Yerbabruja

I was the featured artist, along with opera singer and pianist Bethany Smith, at Teatro Yerbabruja’s Firehouse Gallery in Bayshore, on Friday May 26, 2023. I shared some of my writing and my translations of Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poetry (the soundscape for Dasht-e-Tanhai and a new recording of my translation of Mujh Se Pehli Si Muhabbat). Bethany Smith sang and many wonderful musicians and poets shared their work. There was diversity in terms of style and presentation, language and theme, medium and approach. What a blessing to have found this space, created by a woman of color on Long Island, where we can congregate, share art and music, and build community. Thank you Swati Srivastava for inviting me to present my work and thanks to amazing friends who joined us all the way from Manhattan.
