Resisting the Occupation and Islamophobia Together: Discussion with Dr. Maya Haber

Dr. Maya Haber, from Partners for Progressive Israel, will be at the Islamic Center of Rochester on Sunday June 11, 2017 at 2:00pm to discuss:

“Muslim-Jewish Solidarity: Resisting the Occupation and Islamophobia Together”

Dr. Haber will be talking about anti-occupation movements in Israel. She will also be discussing Islamophobia, here and there, and how we can mobilize Jewish-Muslim solidarity to create a more equitable world.

Dr. Maya Haber is the Director of Planning and Strategy at Partners for Progressive Israel and will be in Rochester in early June to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Maya was born and raised in Israel and has been involved for many years in anti-occupation, social and economic justice struggles.

She now lives in the US. She has written for the Huffington Post, +972, the Forward and Ha’aretz, among other publications. She has a BA in History and Philosophy from Tel Aviv University, and did graduate studies at the University of London and UCLA.

The event is scheduled at 2:00pm so people can join us after Zuhr Salaat. Jewish friends will also attend the event. This is a great opportunity to bring local Muslim and Jewish communities together and collaborate on issues of social justice. It’s a bond that’s more important than ever.

Organized by the Civic Engagement Committee in collaboration with ICR.
