The Sound Of Falling
Responding to Shamoun Murtza’s ‘If A Tree Falls In The Forest’

I composed this piece of music in response to Shamoun Murtza’s ‘If A Tree Falls In The Forest’ and as a response to the tone of his voice. His story has to do with the age-old philosophical dilemma: “If a tree falls in a forest and there is no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?”

Given the lockdown and so many people feeling isolated,  I thought the question could be posed as “If a soul cries out in silence for help and there is no one there to hear them, do they make a sound?” My answer is yes, without question. It is a somber reminder to remain receptive to the ‘falling’ of others in silence.

This is beautiful. I’m incredibly flattered that my piece played a part in inspiring this creative work. I agree whatever one feels. Is real. The very fact that we feel it makes it so. Again beautiful piece of music.
